The workshop is a mixture of quiet time to write and some writing exercises. Feel free to arrive and leave whenever it works for you from 1-5 – we will be doing writing exercises and tips on how to incorporate our senses so we can “show not tell” the scene to our readers and some writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing from 2-3 pm. There will be plenty of quiet time and space to write either in the house or on the grounds of Ravens Crest on your own the remainder of the time. We will gather to finish the day with reflection on our writing obstacles and solutions and then watch the sun set over the Potomac.
This retreat is suitable for both the experienced writer looking for time and space to write and for beginner writers looking to try writing with some guidance.
You may choose to write on your own and not attend the “workshop” portion – this works well for those that have attended the retreat before.
Drinks and snacks included. Please bring your favorite writing tools (paper, laptop, pencil, pen).
Within 24 hours of signing up you will receive a welcome email with directions to the farm.

Minimum participants – 2, Maximum 7.
All retreats and workshops are held at Raven’s Crest in Newburg, MD. Unless noted, they are held rain or shine. There are no refunds once purchased but you can transfer it to a friend. If the minimum participants is not reached, the workshop will be cancelled at least a week in advance and you will be refunded in full. Once the maximum is reached, then the event will be removed from the page for purchase. After purchase, you will receive details including street address and a pre-retreat questionnaire so we can tailor the experience to the participants and get food or other preferences. We welcome any questions you may have before or after purchase.
